Lesley Munro's painting is a reaction to observation, whether it is within landscape, still life, interiors or coastal subjects. She works with the intention of creating a response to her experience as she's fascinated but the way light effects the surface on which it plays. She wants to capture a sense of time and place in her paintings and leave the viewer with an enduring and distant image on which to contemplate, offering a moment for reflection. Her familiarity with the maritime environment has provided a recurrent theme in her contemporary paintings. Her paintings are mostly acrylic on canvas although her move to Norfolk and subsequent discovery of its vast coastline has led to a large body of work on paper. Lesley Munro trained at Duncan of Jordanstone college of Art and Design, 1980- 84 gaining a B.A.Fine Art (Hons), worked in Television and Advertising in London. She trained as a teacher and has taught in both England and Scotland in Colleges, Secondary and Primary. She has exhibited in the UK, and her work can be found in corporate, public and private collections around the world and has won Norfolk landscape artist of the year in 2016 and in 2020 was awarded the Royal Society of Watercolour's Presidents award. She is an associate member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists and Society of East Anglian Watercolourists.
